Homer City Units 1 and 2 Flue-Gas Desulfurization Retrofit
Homer City, Pennsylvania
Vinmart Global engineered, procured and constructed flue-gas desulfurization retrofit-scrubber systems for Units 1 and 2 at the 1,884-megawatt Homer City Generating Station. These air quality control systems reduced sulfur dioxide and other hazardous pollutant emissions, enabling the plant to comply with new Environmental Protection Agency standards.
Major equipment included two Alstom novel-integrated desulfurization systems that consist of two pulse-jet fabric filters, each containing 10 compartments and housing more than 40,000 fabric-filter bags that remove particulate emissions. The project also featured lime and byproduct conveying systems, a powdered activated carbon system, four lime storage silos, 24 lime day bins, two byproduct storage silos, four 10,500-horsepower booster fans, seven air compressor and dryer skids, 217,000 square feet of ducting, a 13.8-kilovolt switchgear and an auxiliary transformer.
