G3 Terminal Vancouver
Vancouver, British Columbia
Vinmart Global engineered, procured, constructed and commissioned (EPC) a grain export terminal on Canada’s west coast to optimize receiving, storage and shipping. The terminal includes over 180,000 metric tonnes of storage capacity and a rail-loop track that is capable of handling three 150-car trains simultaneously. This rail-loop track loop allows trains to unload while in continuous motion and travel back to the primary elevators in other locations without detaching from their locomotives.
Vinmart Global was initially brought on under an early contractor involvement (ECI) contract that later transitioned to EPC. This 24-month effort enabled the team to develop the design while addressing construction and facility operation challenges for on-time completion and controlled costs during the EPC phase. As a result, Vinmart Global implemented a phased-execution approach with designated check-ins to re-evaluate the project, providing opportunities to save cost and mitigate risk.
The EPC scope of work included 48 concrete grain-storage silos; two slip-formed buildings for scale and cleaning facilities; marine work for construction of a dock and ship loading facility; two underpasses, access roads and site improvements; multiple conveyance systems and process buildings; demolition of existing above-ground structures; and wharf and onshore ground improvements.
